Over the weekend, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, the former apostolic nuncio to the United States, released an 11-page statement that implicates Francis and a number of high-ranking Cardinals concerning the Cardinal McCarrick sex abuse scandal. Viganò's
accusations are true, it sure seems to me that a massive cleansing of the
hierarchy of the Catholic Church needs to be implimented.

I have finally read the 11 page transcript of Abp. Vigano. It seems credible to me. As another commentator asked recently, if the charges are false, since the Holy Father, does not wish to make a denial, why does not Pope Benedict put an end to it, by affirming that his successor, Pope Francis, was uninformed?
The supporters of Pope Francis seem to think that the charges against the pope should go away if they are motivated by opposition to the pope's policies and teachings. It is as if they think that only pro-homosexual communists who deny two thousand years of Catholic teaching on the Sacrament of Marriage (as Francis does) should be qualified to bear testimony of the pope's cover up and promotion of bishops who have been guilty of committing and covering up sexual abuse.
The expectations are not realistic. After Watergate, do we think Richard Nixon's obstruction of justice should have been dismissed because the charges were brought forward by his political enemies? Friends are never going to be the first to accuse a party of guilt. It is absurd to dismiss Abp. Vigano on the grounds that he doesn't like what the pope is doing to the Church. It doesn't matter if it is true that Abp. Vigano was a right wing Traditionalist, and a "disgruntled employee", as one Vatican spokesman described Vigano. Let us grant for sake of discussion that Vigano hates the pope. Now what?
